Time rules us in the postmodern age. The reign of the clock began as early as 1370 AD, when king Charles V of France ordered all the bells in Paris to be rung at hourly intervals, based on the newly installed clock of the Royal Palace. The precise and synchronous nature of clocks forms the necessary backbone for industry, commerce, communication - nearly everything that we find ourselves occupied with in this age.
